The history of the Ford Fiesta

Jul 29, 2021 | The Hub | 0 comments

Rolling off the production line for the first time in 1977, the Ford Fiesta is a car that has been around for some time. Here is everything you need to know about the iconic car and its history.

With over 4.5 million of these cars sold in the UK alone, it is evident that this car is extremely popular, with families and first time drivers alike. When Ford decided to build a supermini, no one foresaw just how popular it would be.

A name chosen by Henry Ford himself, for the alliteration with the brand name and the free-spirited nature of the word, Fiesta was chosen and the name stuck, from its conception in 1975 to now, more than 45 years later.

In 1977, the Fiesta was put for sale in the UK market, and work on US exports began as well and two years later, there had already been a million cars sold worldwide. A hit, don’t you think?

By 1982, it had been ironed the best selling car in its class for six years running, and had become a household favourite for many up and down the country, not to mention the worldwide success as well.

Over the coming years, more variants of the Fiesta were introduced, from the sporty to the practical, and even airbags as standard, but what remained the same thought out was the essence and the spirit behind the vehicle that was first thought up back in the 70s.

There have been nine iterations of the iconic model, and it still remains the best selling vehicle in the UK today.
