Fix Those Car Scratches Yourself At Home
We’ve all been there at some point – seen that dreaded scratch on your car. If you didn’t know already, car scratches are one of the most common types of damage. Sure, it’s not the worst kind of damage to your car, but it is an ugly annoyance that you’d no doubt want to fix. The following tips will help you get your car back looking its best.
BEFORE YOU START YOU’LL NEED THE FOLLOWING
1. Protective gloves
2. Safety glasses
3. A dust mask
4. The right product for your type of damage (see below)
FOR LIGHT SCRATCHES
If you have a light scratch, car polish should be enough to sort it out. Your first step should be to clean and dry the scratched area to ensure a smooth result. Grab a fine cloth and some clear polish and start buffing the scratch. Use a circular motion with light pressure for best results.
FOR THOSE DEEPER SCRATCHES
If you can feel the scratch when you run your finger over it, then you have a deeper scratch, this means you need a more comprehensive solution. Repair fluids like T-Cut will often be the best solution for this type of scratch as they will not only fill the scratch but also colour it too.
For this method, grab a very light grit abrasive pad and clean away any rough edges and apply the T-Cut to the scratch evenly. The T-Cut may take some time to cure so best do it in good weather conditions or inside the garage if you have one.
BEYOND DEEPER SCRATCHES
Sometimes the damage is just too deep for you to do yourself at home, and if this is the case, then contact a local professional or you could just be making things worse, which can be costly.
